The Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America is embarking on an ambitious and transformative project
to help change the lives of youth throughout the Lower Midlands of South Carolina. Scouting is a powerful and thought
provoking program that we believe will greatly aid youth in rural and high poverty pocket areas. Through AmeriCorps
we will start over two dozen new scouting units in afterschool programs throughout the Lower Midlands. In our programs
AmeriCorps members will lead afterschool scouting programs by facilitating powerful lessons in leadership, character,
and service in a fun and nurturing environment. AmeriCorps members will have the opportunity not only to work with youth
on a daily basis, but assist the Council in forging more partnerships with schools and community centers so that it can start
new units and find volunteers to support existing programs.
